Pros and Cons of
Emigrating to Perth, Australia
| It is very important
that you realize that Australia is not the same place as the UK
with an accent. Australia is a very different country from
the UK. Are you sure you really want to move? Is the
grass really greener in Australia?
A lot of the things that makes life good in
Australia are taken for granted here in Aus. As an example a
while back I went to see 'Fleetwood Mac' in concert (in Perth
City). I parked 20 yards from the entrance and walked into
the arena. No rip-off parking charges. No cramming
onto the Tube. No hassle. And I was in the second row with
no special contacts in the music business! Try doing that in
London!
Life is just easier here!

Pros
- Reasons to move to Australia
- Better quality of life
- Better future for your children
- Beautiful beaches, surfing, boating & fishing
- Excellent education
- Excellent healthcare
- Lower crime levels
- The weather
- The economy
- Cheaper house prices
- Great infrastructure road, rail and airports
- Much less CCTV, no ID cards, no nuclear power / weapons and just about as far
away from UK politicians as you can get.
Cons - Reasons not to move to Australia
- Leaving family and friends
- High cost of moving including shipping your belongings
to Oz as well as selling your house and buying a new one in
Australia. The same applies to the cars. Do not underestimate
the cost of the move (and I haven't even mentioned the cost of
getting your pets to Australia!)
- Possibly higher tax
- Increased business paperwork and bureaucracy
- Isolation from the rest of the world
- Australian bars are not English Pubs!
- Perceived lack of European history & culture.
You may be older than most of the houses you see
- Lack of the four familiar seasons and a lack of green 'English' countryside
- No familiar brands like Tesco and Marks
- Even the chocolate tastes different
- Standard of driving leaves a lot to be desired
- Dreadful TV (apart from ABC)
- Historically mono-cultural and sexist
These sorts of issues are explored in detail in the migration guide,
Emigrating
to Australia along with the practicalities of starting
a new life
down under.
